Choosing a right roof for your house can be confusing for many as there are many misconceptions about the material used for making the roof. The most common options available are timber trusses and steel trusses. The advantages and disadvantages of each of the options are
· Steel frame solutions or steel trusses: This option of trusses are more expensive than the other options, but last longer and require very less maintenance. Steel frames deliver multiple benefits to construction projects as no chemical treatments are needed for maintaining, not subject to insect infestations and are light weight allowing easy and quick installation. As steel can be recycled, this option makes it ideal for environmental friendly homes or business owners. Steel trusses require more skill and experienced team to fit them quickly and efficiently. These fire resistant frames can be made of any shape. These trusses can be made of any length while the wooden ones can be a maximum of 15 feet. Processing of these structures takes less time with almost no wastage. Rains cannot damage these frames which is not true for other commonly used trusses.
· Timber trusses: They are cheaper than the steel frames but don’t last long as timber is a natural material. These frames are exposed to warping and bowing thus causing structural damage to the building. Timber frames could rot and face insect infestation which may call for costly repairs. Extreme weather conditions could also cause damage to these trusses. Despite all the drawbacks of these trusses, timber frames are being installed because they are very economical.
Roof trusses are replacing rafters in most of the residential buildings. Trusses provide more advantages over the traditional rafter solutions. Roof trusses are incredibly strong and quick to install. This type of trusses transfers whole weight to external walls relieving load from interior walls.
